Name: Justin Patrick Church DOB: 8/18/80 Occupation: Struggling Potential Novelist/Morning Radio Show Host
→ Justin Patrick Church (better known as JP to friends and listeners) was born in Hagerstown, MD to Patrick Anthony and Julia Marie Church. Their only child, JP wasn't a prodigy, but he was certainly an accelerated learner. As he grew up, JP didn't exactly dumb himself down, but rather became bored with school. His marks were high to a point, then leveled off and dropped after a point. it was through nothing any teature did wrong, but JP just felt like it wasn't entertaining. This mostly happened in math and science, but his English and Fine Arts grades remained the same. Thanks to his disinterest, JP actually graduated in the lower third of his class, something he has no problem admitting.
→ JP is what people constantly picture in their head when they envision the trademark slacker. He has very few "nice" clothes, lives in a quiet and somehow messy apartment, and just generally seems to still be drifting. Dropping out of college after six years of taking the bare minimum credits to still be considered a student, JP moved to the island in the hopes that he could at least attempt to make himself something. So far, the only real calling he has found is his spot on the morning radio show, but JP has also finally been talked into trying to write his memoirs, as someone has told them they might just be interesting enough for him to warrant a chance at writing them to get somewhere. So far, his time has been nothing but hit or miss, but at least the first chapter of his book is done, he's really just waiting for inspiration to come, which usually seems to be in the form of chance encounters.
→ In the world of relationships, JP has had a handful of girlfriends, a short list of hookups, and one engagement. JP broke off his engagement thanks to cold feet, most of which was attributed to the fact that he moved within a week of breaking it off. Now in Telluride, he's been rather gunshy about relationships, but that doesn't mean that he's not interested in them. Thanks to a guilt tripping mother, and what seems to be the early seeds of a mid-life crisis in the making, JP has actually started considering playing the field to meet someone. In fact, he is discussing the possibility of putting himself available for dates every morning on his show to go on 100 dates in 100 days. He's hoping to get the station to sponsor and approve the idea, saving his wallet a great deal of money.
→ Personality wise, JP is actually a very nice person. It's easy to see him as his occasionally abrasive and brutally honest person that he often appears to be during his show, but he generally has a good personality. He often says his honesty is amplified "by ten thousand". That doesn't mean that he's a softy, because he tends to keep himself well preserved. He just tends to feel that the person he is isn't a very interesting person, despite several opinions to the contrary. Also, as a VERY minor celebrity thanks to his radio show, he tends to keep himself guarded for that very reason. Of course, after a few beers, JP is everybody's friend.
→ People who know JP have often labeled him "eccentric", mostly the result of some of his odd hobbies and ability to tell incredibly wild and tall tales when associating with a crowd at gatherings. Again, this is a product of his willingness to drink heavily at gatherings. In all honesty, JP is compensating for occasional bouts of social anxiety. All these things, the boredom and the occasional heavy drinking, are actually all attributed to one thing. JP suffers from a severe insecurity that some of his more positive traits do not make up for the negative ones, often leaving him socially confused and quietly frustrated. It's a long stretch to say depressed, but JP really just wants to find a situation where he's comfortable with himself and be able to show not just bits and pieces of his personality, but the whole thing at once.
→ In an attempt to better himself after what he announced on his radio show as a "half-year resolution" and to have a play on the film The Bucket List, JP has compiled a short list of things to do from June 1st to December 31st. This list includes, but is not limited to: finally learning to ski, go to a bar and not pay for a single drink, broadcast an entire show without going on a single rant, learn one dirty phrase in five different languages, complete at least four chapters of his memoirs, attempt an open mic night at a comedy club, and find an unbiased ear for his writing and works. So far, over a month into this attempt, JP has completed none of them.
→ Amongst his favorite music, JP considers 90's rock his favorite brand of music (citing "everything was much happier back then musically"), Judd Apatow films his favorite movies as of late, and generally finds himself a fan of cult classic films. Many of his soundbites on his radio show feature quotes and scenes from such underground and cult favorites as the original Reefer Madness, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Shock Treatment, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, This is Spinal Tap, Big Trouble In Little China, and various other films of that nature. His love for one of these particular films has his morning show titled "The JP Horror Morning Show".
→ Of course, there's been a great deal of talk about JP's hobbies. His most well known hobby is that he has publicly admitted to collecting old Atari systems and their games. In addition to that, he also collects movie posters, the comic book Witchdog, and bobbleheads. He has an entire room devoted to this last hobby, and he considers his finest moment to be the time the radio station issued a collector's bobblehead of him. He asked for them to number them to 1000, and JP actually owns the bobblehead numbered 1/1000.
→ Life has changed for JP a lot over the past year, having been asked to tone down his content and taking a new co-host. Now, The JP Horror Morning Show is JP & June in the morning, and after a year, their antagonizing ways have finally caved in to a sort of mutual respect and possible friendship. Regardless, the two still look to be at least an amusing yin and yang on air.
